clarkeslist: Providence

So, let’s go ahead and get this out of the way. There’s only one reason I decided to go with Providence, RI this time:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Whatever you may think of that show’s humor, there’s nothing like the humor of desperate people and weirdos. So, let’s see how much of that we can find.

The Geek’s Guide to UGA Football: Part II

Part two of this very nerdy guide to the Georgia Bulldogs’ football season starts here. So far, we’ve covered the Louisiana, South Carolina, and Arkansas games, all of which I see Georgia winning. At worst, I can imagine Georgia splitting the latter two games, but I think the defense will be thrust in the fire and come out tempered and strong.

On deck for the 3-0 Bulldogs will be Mississippi State, Colorado, and the orange horror that is the University of Tennessee.

The Geek’s Guide to College Football: UGA, Part I

Photo: Adam Hergenrader

It’s easy for me to say goodbye to summer movie season because I know that college football is right around the corner. I don’t like leaving behind the three or four months in which it is socially acceptable to sit in a dark room and act like a 12-year-old (“WOAH GIANT ROBOTS KICKING BUTT YEAH”), but it’s OK when we all get to move into three or four months in which it is equally acceptable to act like 21-year-old (“WOO BULLDAWGS WHIPPIN DAT ASS GIMME BEER”).

This year it’s especially tough to finish summer because we had a couple of solid sci-fi flicks (Iron Man 2, Splice, Predators) and one really exceptional one (Inception). So, I thought, why not extend the sci-fi summer… in the most contrived way possible?

Brazil 2014: A Ludicrous Look Ahead

World Cup 2010 has been over for a few weeks now and parts of Madrid may still be in flames, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to look to 2014. Actually, that’s a bald-faced lie. It’s far too early to make any sort of substantive analysis, but I’m not ready to let go, so we’re going to have one more post on U.S. soccer. And if you don’t like it, you can get outNO PLEASE DON’T GO.

Where It’s At: World Cup, The Other Football Season, Inception

Goodness, it’s been a little while, hasn’t it?

This will be a different kind of post, and there are a few reasons for that:

1) I promised a post about the World Cup final and didn’t deliver, so I need to wrap that whole thing up.

2) I’m working on a great deal of things at once, and I’ve not yet been able to come up with a full-fledged post. So, this will be, mostly, an update and preview post.

3) I can’t stand having that stunningly bad Germany-Spain prediction front and center any longer.

World Cup 2010: Day 22

Here we are, the second semi-final match. Today we’ll discover who’ll be the other team playing for the championship and who’ll be playing for third place. Let me go ahead and break that tension for you:

Germany will win today. It won’t be like the 4-0 beatdowns we’ve seen, but it will be convincing. Germany is down Muller today, but they won’t miss him. The game’s just kicking off, so let’s get to it.

World Cup 2010: Day 21

Semi-finals, baby! La Celeste of Uruguay and The Flying Dutchmen (awesome) square off at 2:30 to see who gets to play for the big prize and who gets the consolation match.

The Dutch are favored in this match, as they’ve already proved themselves against the highest ranked team in the world, Brazil. However, Uruguay do have one thing the Dutch do not: wicked crab catching skills.

Forlan is SO good at that. Who knew?
